There's a magical place where you can go with your child. You don't even have to leave your house or your couch! It's a place I've been to with Wills, and it's called WONDEROPOLIS.
Once you log onto www.wonderopolis.org, there, with the click of a button, Wills can become a human compass or create his own a super hero identity.
Every time we wake up, there is a new Wonder of the Day waiting for us! They come in the form of questions. Here are just a few:
- Why are flamingos pink?
- What causes a shooting star?
- Ever wonder what it would be like to live inside a fishbowl?
- Who came up with chewing gum?
- How old is soccer?
A short video awaits you with each new nugget of information, as well as a list of Fun Facts and Wonder Words. It's creative and interesting for all ages!
You can stay on the website for three minutes or take your time browsing through the many Wonders they offer. You're going to come away with something you've never thought of before, something funny or mysterious. In our busy lives, there's plenty of time for WONDEROPOLIS, even if it's in between Wills finishing his cereal and catching the bus.
Wills and I are so excited that we've begun working on Wonder videos of our own. We want to see if we can create a Wonder of the Day ourselves.
This creative, magical, smart website was created by The National Center for Family Literacy where they know that parents and children learn best when they learn together. Their goal has always been to get the entire family involved in learning, and I think they've achieved their ultimate goal with WONDEROPOLIS!
