Reading and Signing at the Corona Public Library

Serving Children with Autism: Literature, Libraries and Learning

Monica Holloway will offer a speaker presentation on autism and act as a workshop facilitator during 'Serving Children with Autism: Literature, Libraries and Learning' workshop presented by Children's Literature Council of Southern California, on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Frostig. The event, geared towards teachers and librarians, will host two primary presenters; -Dr. Ricki Robinson, a physician specializing in autism and who will give a technical talk on autism for 30 minutes, -Barbara Clipper, a librarian guru who specializing in working with autistic children. Ms. Clipper will offer a hands-on workshop on the emphasis of inclusion and children with autism in regards to story time, reading, etc., and Monica will assist the workshop as a facilitator. Monica will offer a 10 minute speaking presentation on her experiences with autism and Cowboy & Wills.

4th Annual Autistic Kids Cooking Class

Join Monica as she attends this kid-friendly event for the third year running! Developmentally disabled children of all ages are invited to attend the 4th annual ‘Autistic Kids Cooking Class’ workshop and fundraiser, with featured event speaker and autism memoir author Monica Holloway, on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Young Chefs Academy in observance of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2.

Holloway tells the story of a boy and his dog. She shares what they discovered -- about devotion, about loyalty and about never giving up. Sometimes it's what you don't know to hope for that saves you. Books will be available to purchase that evening and Monica will stay for book signing after her talk. Opportunities for small group discussions with parents of OurSpace participants; about topics of interest, networking and support are part of monthly chats.
