Thank you to all my wonderful readers who have been so generous in sharing their stories with me on my Cowboy & Wills Facebook Fan page and also at my various appearances! What an inspiration all of you are to me! Now, hopefully, this will be a place to hear from even more of you! Thank you to Steve and Debbie, my first two responders!! I’m so happy to see you here! Thank you for taking the time to write to me!
Dear Monica,
I don’t know whether to thank you for writing Cowboy and Wills or blame you for the 30 minute crying episode I just had as I finished the book. My son came out to see if I was ok and I’ll I could manage between blubbering sobs was, “Cowboy died!” So thank you for writing the book about two things I love; kids and dogs. I appreciate your insight as a parent with a child on the autism spectrum. I chose to read the book as I am an elementary teacher who is always trying to figure out what I can do for kids, especially when their view of the world is unique to them. I wish you and your family and new dog all the best.
First my deepest sympaties for the loss of your family’s angel(Cowboy). I must admit I rarely read books, I mostly stick to magazines or news paper articles as I lack the time in my busy schedule. Being an educator, who occassionally works with autistic children is extremely time consuming. Your book took me on a voyage! I thank you for making me feel feelings I hadn’t felt in a long time…I felt the love of a mother on every page I read. You are an incredible woman, with an incredible son, an incredible husband and an incredible story! I will not forget your story anytime soon
Thank Monica for moving me inside!
Thanks for the autographed copy you sent me via Bookin with Bingo. I have an autistic son and your book touched me. If you check my blog next week (Feb 14-19) you’ll see me doing a series called “Women’s Week”. I decided to to that series because of a book I reviewed. The week of Feb 22, I’m going to do a similar series on Autism. Would you like to provide an autographed copy of Cowboy & Wills as a prize? As I did with The Cougar Club, I’d mention your book every day for a week.
It would be my pleasure!! Congratulations on winning! That’s so fun!
Let me know where to send it. The best thing might be to go through my publicist,
Marni Wandner at Sneak Attack. Let me get her email address to you. I’ll be sending the book, but she stays on top of everything for me, thank heavens. Still very busy with the book.XXO
Marni’s email is marni@sneakattackmedia.com. Let her know I sent you!!
Thanks so much!!
Just finished your book about Cowboy-very touching and inspiring! My 9 yr old grandson is on the spectrum and too has a beloved dog who has helped him in so many ways. He was very much like Wills and experienced many of the same issues-his dog brings comfort, calm, unconditional love and a great conversation starter which has helped his social skills and confidence immensley! Thank you for sharing your story and for being so honest with all your struggles, doubts and fears which mirror those of us who love someone on the spectrum. Best of wishes for you and your family. So happy to hear Wills has a new “buddy”. Keep telling us your stories!
Monica,
I just finished reading your book and for only the 2nd time in my life, was so moved, I had to “reach out” to the author. (the first book was “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” by Jonathan Safran – read it and you’ll understand) Anyway, having an autistic nephew, AND having lost a 2 year old golden retriever pup to cancer, this book really spoke to me. As I read the book and got more involved with the story, I grew to feel a bond with you and your family – that is what a good writer does – pulls the reader in. Even though your story made me cry like a baby, I loved it! I’ve recommended it to all of my friends, it is a story that will speak to so many people who have struggled with similar issues. I am happy for you and your family and wish you well. By the way, Cowboy looked so much like my Angus, also a blond golden retriever, it was spooky. We believe Angus was sick when we got him as a newborn pup, but would not trade our time with him for anything. He was such a sweet, lovable dog…..destructive, but so lovable!
Thanks for a great read. Wishing you and your family all the best.
Christine
Monica, I’m so SAD I missed your San Francisco book tour last fall. Will you be coming back for any more events?
The book looks amazing. Just ordered it online. The photos are so heart-opening. There is one in Rockefeller Center in which Wills is hugging you and the joy is so tangible. I can’t wait to read your story — though it sounds like you are making everyone cry!
I should back up a minute and re-introduce myself, since it has been many eons since our paths crossed. I was lucky enough to create a couple Mad Moon Creations Celebration Books for your family. I never forget any of my clients, but always remember you in particular for your bright spirit, warmth, and all the gorgeous family pics you had! I loved working with you and Michael.
This morning I was watching a Simpsons cartoon with my nine-year-old son. I just happened to see the name “Michael Price” in the credits. And decided I would try to track down a way to tell Michael how much joy and delight that show has brought my son. (Kayne just loves, loves, loves, that show.) When I found Michael on Facebook, there was the book cover pic for your book. The photos and title instantly got my attention. That led me to your website/blog. So instead of writing to Michael, here I am, saying hi to you. Already moved by your book, by your light.
If you do come back to SF for your book tour, let me know and I’ll bring some friends! Would love to say hello to you in person.
Wishing you and your family well …
Sherry
Hi, Sherry! Wow, blast from the past! Not sure about San Francisco again for this book. Maybe when the paperback comes out! Thank you so much for getting in touch. Michael and I treasure our books you made for us. Love to you and your family…Monica
